Asked Questions (FAQ) Why should I get my child admitted in DPS Varanasi ? DPS Varanasi provides your child a platform for his overall growth. To ensure individual attention, we maintain an appropriate teacher-student ratio, the primary sections have 30 children each, while each class (I- VII ) consists of 40 children in each section. Remedial classes are recognized in the timetable. Slow learning students are given additional help and support in these. It excels not only in studies but also offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports activities such as Skating, Table Tennis, Swimming, Basketball, Lawn Tennis as well as literary activities such as Debate, Dramatics, Elocution, Dance, Music and Art & Craft. and collaboration among its member schools. I'm worried if they are admitted now what will happen to them after passing out class VIII. As per the Affiliation Bye-laws, C.B.S.E., DPS Varanasi has already been received NOC from UP Govt. and affiliation by C.B.S.E.is under the process. From the session 2005-06, Classes IX and XI will be started and classes X and XII will follow from the subsequent session. Is your school running in double shift ? No. Ours is a single shift school. However, the timings for primary and junior wings are different for the reason that the children of the junior wing stays longer and participate in number of outdoor and indoor activities in the school. The school timing for Nursery, Prep and class I is from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in summers and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in winters. For senior classes the summer timing is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and in winters the timings would be 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The school is far away from my place. What
are the transport facilities available ? What is the age criteria for getting admission at DPS School ? Age of the candidate as on March 31, 2004 as recorded in the birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Birth and Death of a Municipal Body, will determine the eligibility for admission to a particular class. to you in number of ways. Is hostel facility also available at your
school ? What is Virtual School ? How it would be helpful for us as parents of the DPS student? Virtual school facilitates the students, teachers as well as parents an access to unlimited knowledge at the click of the mouse. Each parent, student and teacher has been given a unique username and password. Through this system the school keeps the parents informed about the day-day progress of their wards vis-a-vis other students. It includes school notices, activities, e-mails from teaches, assignments, result analysis, sample papers, digital library and photo gallery to name a few. Parents can use the system to communicate regularly with the teachers of their ward. Moreover, the facility of online PTA is also available on certain dates. Edu-link aims at making the best teachers of DPS fraternity available to our school at DPS Varanasi. It is one way video and two way audio system, hence students at DPS Varanasi can interact and resolve their queries from teachers who are physically far away from them. What do I need to do if my address has changed? Parents are required to inform the school if there is any change in their address and telephone numbers in writing and submit the same to the classteacher of their ward. How do I recover my child's lost belongings ? 'Prevention is better than cure'. The name, admission number, class and section of the student should be clearly marked on all belongings of the student, e.g. blazers, sweaters, ties, belts, water bottles etc. In case your ward has lost his belongings please write to your child's classteacher and get the matter resolved. Can my child celebrate his birthday in school ? Yes, your child can bring only sweets/chocolates to distribute to other children. However he is not allowed to bring gifts for the teachers. How do I remit the fees to the school ? Fees can be remitted at any of the following branches of Union Bank of India up to the 10th of the month. - Rathyatra Crossing Branch, Varanasi. Tel.No.2361785 Can I deposit the fees by cheque or draft ? Yes. Fees can be deposited by cheque, draft or cash as per the convenience of the parents. What is the consequence of late deposit of fee ? If fee for a month in respect of any student is not paid by the 10th of that monthly period, a fine of Rs. 10/- per day will be charged up to the day the fee is deposited. Late fine is cumulative and will not be waived under any circumstances. How do I get in touch with the school authorities/ teachers ? There are several ways of communicating with the school. Whom to contact and where? The postal addresses and the contact person to whom all correspondence and applications must be addressed are: The Principal/Co-ordinator Meeting time and schedule can be gleaned from the Almanac. Where can I find information relating to academic and non-academic activities within the school campus, and also things like school calendar, uniform, code of conduct etc. ? All your queries regarding all of these and more are to be found in the Almanac. In fact DPS Varanasi Almanac has been designed exactly from this point of view. we strongly recommend all parents to familiarize themselves thoroughly with the Almanac. What if my child forgets to carry his lunch box ? Don't worry. If informed in time, the class teacher ensures that your child will not go hungry. But we as a principle do not allow tiffins to be sent from home. What is the procedure to be followed if my child has to take leave of absence for a few days ? In case leave is required for less than three days, the class teacher can be informed through the almanac. For longer leaves an application needs to be sent to the classteacher. In case of sickness/travel also due application should be sent along with supporting documents. Is the child's attendance taken into account for promotion and ranking in class ? 85% of attendance is compulsory for promotion and ranking in class. Can my child's bus stop be changed ? No. The bus stops cannot be changed to suit individual needs. However requests for change can be considered under exceptional cases and if there is a change in residence. The change will be subject to vacancy in the bus opted for. What will happen if my child's I-Card is lost ? If the student or the parent loses an I-Card , it has to be replaced on a payment of fine of Rs. 200/- Is my child permitted to catch another bus if he has missed his designated bus ? Under no circumstances will the child be allowed to board another bus. Parents are strongly advised not to pursue another bus driver or Incharge thereof for this. Are latecomers allowed to attend classes ? No. The regulations regarding latecomers and absentees is given in the almanac. However under special circumstances the child may be allowed to attend the class with permission of co-ordinator/ principal. Is my child allowed to leave the school premises during school hours ? Only under an emergency or exceptional cases. For availing leave of absence during school hour prior application has to be sent. The child will be issued a gate-pass authorized by the concerned authority on production of the parent I-Card. Also a special log book has to be signed by the authorized person escorting the child out of campus. Can my child go to or come from the stop unescorted ? Normally no. Specially for students up to class-V. This is exactly why the school issues a Parent's copy of I-Card. In case no one comes to collect the child from the bus stop, the driver/Incharge is authorized to drop the child at the administrative Office, Sigra or the school campus, whichever is nearer. In such a case you will be informed of this through telephone. Who ensures the safety of my child in the bus ? The designated Incharge keeps a strict discipline in the bus. In fact the school buses of DPS Varanasi confirm to the strict guidelines laid by the Supreme Court. Additionally all buses are equipped with mobile phones to be used by school authority to take care of any exigencies. Does my child need any extra help in his academic work ? If you imply 'tuition' by this, the answer is a very emphatic NO. The only assistance s/he requires is your monitoring.
