DPS Campaigns In going down the ages, we find that there was deep reverence for the earth and nature. Today, we all know that when we are set out to bring heaven on earth, by means of technological miracles, these very technologies have so fouled up the atmosphere of our planet that conditions have become unlivable and individual achievement has become meaningless. Scientists point to industrialization and the way modern economy has used the earth's material resources, destroying the earth's ecosystems. Forests are vanishing, there is increased desertification, the rivers and the oceans are stained with death because of the poisons we have poured into them. On the one hand we worship water, air, soil, trees and animals with elaborate rituals whereas on the other hand we have degraded them beyond repair.

To look into some aspects of future, we do not need prophecies by the astrologers. Much of the new millennium can be seen in how we care for our environment. The quality of environment may be influenced by science and technology but the halting of continuous degradation of the various aspects of environment can be brought about by active participation and continuous effort of sensitive people. Keeping this in mind, the EECC (Environment Education Council for Children ) was formed under the flagship of DPS Society. To create new mind set, add a new dimension to the educational agenda of the schools, programmes and activities are coordinated in search of answers to environmental issues. The students of DPS, Varanasi with the guidance of Environment Club representative, will identify issues ,plan and implement EECC projects. One of the EECC projects Students Action Plan for Ganga & Yamuna involves DPS Schools for keeping the rivers clean. This exercise is mainly to sensitize the students to the problems of the communities. From these students a future generation leaders who will emerge, hopefully, will know how to deal with progress and development but not at the cost of the earth. DPS Varanasi has already put its foot forward in this direction and transformed its intentions into reality by calling a campaign Say no to Crackers . An effort was made to create this wave amongst children of all age groups by distributing contest sheets to express their ideas regarding the hazardous side effects of crackers. The response from children was overwhelming and they beautifully expressed their views by sketching and painting a picture suggesting alternative ways to celebrate Diwali. Various activities and campaigns will be carried out from time to time with the focus to create awareness of how to conserve our resources, recycle waste, preserve wild-life, contain pollution and make our world a paradise.
