Annual Sports Meet - 2009
Dec. 24th, 2009 proved to be a red letter day for D.P.S. Varanasi.. as it was the grand celebration occasion of their Annual Sports meet. The entire school was excited to witness the spectacular show of different track and field events. The sterling performers, the spectators and the staff members were all bubbling up with the feeling of joy and felicity. The entire school premises was adorned with colourful balloons.
 

The programme began with torch relay. The floral greet by the young students on skates left every one agog. After that the students of all the four houses presented March Past to show their reverence to the honourable guest. The hands and legs were moving in unision and was a unique example of discipline that was applauded by everyone. After that the school head boy and head girl along with other office bearers took an oath and by releasing the balloons the meet was declared open by the Principal, Mr. Pradeep Ghosh. The colourful balloons were soaring high like the zeal and vibrance of the skilled athletes.

The releasing of balloons was followed by a short speech by the Principal in which he appreciated the gesture in which the school had organized the event he also spoke on the utility and importance of sports and gomes in today’s moribund life. He also praised the feeling of healthy competition and team spirit among the students which is essential in today’s changing milieu.

Depsites presented different mudras of Yoga in which they also included ‘the Surya Namaskar’ the soft movements of Yogic mudras changed gradually into vibrant aerobics the music and the movements were sychronized in such a manner that every one started tapping their feet and enjoyed the dexterity of 40 young students, Aerobics was followed by Bamboo Dance which proved that the student had remarkable concentration and liking for music. The movements of feet captivated the spectators and the entire field echoed with the clapping sound.

Around 45 students presented Martial Arts and made different shapes of pyramid and also presented a fan Dance which left the audience startled and surprised.
After this musical treat the different events took place such as shot put, Jevlin, high Jump, long jump along with 800m, 400m, 200m, and 100m. race. The jubilant lot tasted the victory and their happiness knew no bounds.

This year the school had decided to present a shield to the commendable performers of Junior, Middle, and Senior wing. The Best athlete of Middle wing was Vashitha Naryana Tripathi VIII – F and of senior wing was Varaun Singh of XI and  in the girls category Richa Agrawal of IX – C was the best athlete.

In the 400m. boys race the first position was bagged by Badri Harsh of IX-B second by Virendra Vikram of XI-C and third by Marjan of IX-D.

In Senior wing girls 400m race the first position was bagged by Richa Agrawal of IX-C second by Souyma Singh of XI-E and third by Ripanshi Batra of XI-A. In Junior wing (girls) Akriti Agrawal VIII -E stood first, Manisha Shevaramani of VIII-A stood second and Vandini Purohit of VIII-D stood third. Red house come up in flying colours in and Junior events.

In shot put (boys) Junior wing Shubham Kr. Singh of class VI-E got first position, Prateek Kumar VIII-A got second position and Akshay Sahni VIII-A got third position. In shot put (junior girls) Manisha of VIII-A won the first position, Deeksha of VIII-A second and Vandini of VIII-A the third position.

In long jump senior wing boys who stood first, second and third were – Vasishtha Narayan Tripathi VIII-F, Darpan shah VIII-E and Aditya Srivastava VIII-E. Among girls Divya Sonal VII-D, Arushi VIII-C and Priyanka Dubey VIII-F were first second and third respectively.

In high jump senior wing boys first was Yadvendra Singh VIII-C, Second was Sudhanshu Kr. VIII-B and Krishan Khetan of VIII-A was at the third position. Among girls – Vasudha of VIII-F was, Ratnika Johiri VIII-D second and Pallavi Kapoor VIII-A was third.

The next segment was again a musical treat presented by school orchestra. They presented ‘Sare Jahan se achha’ and ‘Kadam Kadam Badaye Ja’ which bagged a lot of cheer to them.

Such sports events give students an edge to have immaculate vision, they learn how to tide over their problems of every day life. They learn to create good ambience to perform efffectiveily in life. It also shows the hardwork and sincere efforts of the teachers and management who are committed to the cause of society.

The programme reached its finality with the encouraging words of the school principal Mr. Pradeep Ghosh who not only praised the students for their versatile efforts but also the teachers for being the guiding force and motivational power for the students. Vice Principal  Ms. Ashu Kalra. Directors Mr. Pankaj Rajgarhia and Mrs. Seema Rajgarhia were also present on the occasion to boost the morale of the students.
