Annual Sports Day - 2009 (Primary/Junior Wing)
It is said, “To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” But the light and warmth of the torch of success which DPS Varanasi bears shall never be extinguished as the Dipsites do not have the word “failure” in their dictionary.
 

The Primary and Junior wing of Delhi Public School Varanasi, celebrated its ‘Annual Sports Day’ on 23rd December 2009 with great zest. It was a spectacular show with the young children joining their hands with their elder ones and proving their zeal in the various track events and demonstrations.

The programme began with the welcoming of the Chief Guest in a unique fashion. The students on their skates glided forward with flowers in their hands to shower a floral welcome to the Chief Guest Prof. Mrs. Sushma Ghildyal, HOD Deptt. of Physical Education B.H.U.  The skaters undoubtedly displayed their unbeatable talent, team work and balancing capabilities. The Chief Guest Prof. Ghildyal declared the meet open by lighting the torch.  The programme was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Principal Mr. Pradeep Ghosh and Vice Principal Ms. Ashoo Kalra. Mr. Pankaj Rajgarhia & Mrs. Seema Rajgarhia also graced the occasion. 

The DPS campus echoed with applause as the Dipsites marched forward, showing perfect synchronization of movement of hands and feet. Principal Mr. Pradeep Ghosh awakened the audience about the need of a healthy body for a healthy future and also for a prosperous country.  The lush lawn of the school turned colourful with the vibrant presentation of Aerobics and Koli dance. Both events were the specimen of rhythm and grace.

The events began with the tiny tots running to win a flat race of 30mts. The champion in the boys category was Madhur Agrawal & Jhanvi Srivastava in the girls category. This event was followed by ‘Mickey & Minie’ race and ‘fill the bucket’ race. The winners were Vivek Singh and Navya Agrawal in the Mickey & Minie race. 

Tazil Khan bagged the first position in the ‘fill the bucket’ race. The Pre-primary classes showed an excellent performance in the flat race, butterfly race and reverse race. The butterfly race enraptured the audience for its innovative & colourful demonstration. The winner in the races were Ayush Kumar (Boys-30mts) and Kaveri Mishra (Girls-30mts)  , Rajat Gupta and Zenaira Ashfaque (butterfly race), & Saksham Verma (reverse race).

Class I had to accept the challenges of the flat race, obstacle race and gift wrapping race; each of which equally tested the dexterity of the children. Arfat Manzar & Kashish Yadav bagged the first position in flat race, Atharva Singh was the winner in the obstacle race. Khushi Singh & Ayush N. Singh  were crowned for proving their efficiency in gift-wrapping.

The arena was occupied by the Junior wing students when the flat race was announced. Ashish Kr. Singh & Vaishnavi Singh Rajput bagged the highest position in 50mt. flat race from II & III. Sachidanand Singh & Shivangi Singh from IV & V in 50m and Aviral Varshney & Manasvee Singh in 200 mt. flat race.

A neck to neck battle was observed in the relay race. The winning houses in the relay of classes II & III are Harmony (Boys) and Service (Girls). The champions of classes IV & IV for the relay race were Courage (Boys) and Wisdom (Girls).

The sprawling lawns of DPS Varanasi reverberated with rounds of applauses when the participants showed their skills in long jump and frog race. The winners in the categories were Shree Vallabh Singh (Boys) & Aparajita Verma (Girls) and Namnendra Gupta (Boys) & Dhwani Kataria (Girls) respectively.

Dhruv Gupta of V F and Sanjana Singh of V D won the honour of being the best athletes of the Junior Wing.

Parents were also brought to arena as a wonderful event of musical chair was arranged for the ladies and flat race(100 mts) for the gentlemen. Everyone enjoyed their events very much.

The spirit with which the tiny Dipsites presented their skills hold everybody in raptures Prof. Mrs. Ghildyal gave her blessings to all the upcoming talents and wished that in the coming years, they would emerge as stars. The entire programme was anchored by Ms. Abha Singh and Ms. Sushmita Singh.

‘To set the cause above renown, to love the game beyond the prize’ was the main motto which runs in the blood of all Dipsites.
