Mr. Jitin Chawla, Director, Centre for Career Development was the main spokesperson for the session along with Dr. Sunita Roy . The credit of being counted as one of the educationists and career counselors of India goes to Mr. Jitin Chawla . He is known for extending valuable  advice regarding selection of career . The credit for organizing and conducting approx 1500 workshops is various institutions all over India goes to him. He believes in focusing on the mental get up of the child and lays stress on examining the  psychological aspects which assist in polishing the personality of a  child. This according to him automatically to choose the right profession for himself.

Dr. Sunita Roy is a Physiological, and  career counselor . She is working for   CBSE and Expression India 2000. She is a master trainer in Life Skills  Education and had been training Principals of different schools  in Adolescence Education Programme .

While addressing the students Mr. Chawla reiterated that in the absence of the right guidance the students are unable to choose correctly for themselves and follow the age old career options which may not be suitable for many. He pointed out that mostly the students blindly follow the obvious options that are available and hope to become Doctors or Engineers. The statistics show that only 20% of the students are successful, while the rest are clueless as to which direction they should move us. He stressed on the fact that it is extremely important for the students to recognize their abilities, flair in a particular field. He further agreed that schools, parents and counselors need to assist and extend information regarding the vast number of possibilities available for the students so that they may be able to make their choice correctly.

He went on to suggest the it is advisable to make a choice of the career according to one’s bent of mind for this he enumerated certain psychological tests which examine the verbal, numerical, mechanical, psychomotor abilities of the students. He demonstrated these tests with students.

These tests bring out the particular ability of a child i.e.. whether the child has mathematical bent of mind of literary bent of mind etc. This makes it easier for the students to select a career accordingly. He further stated 2 main tests CIS and DBDA which are very helpful in exposing the personality and the hidden traits of child, further this also enables one to work upon aspects lime shyness etc and get rid of them.

He went on to reiterate that parents play an important role in the selection of a career for a child. He expressed his views that they should not force their aspirations on their children. Rather should encourage their children according to their choice.

The advices extended by Mr. Chawla were well taken by the students as well as parents. The session was attended by Mr. Pradeep Ghosh Principal DPS. VNS. & Ashoo Kalra, Headmistress DPS VNS. The counseling session was successfully conducted for 2 days – 18th & 19th of April’ 08 for students of classes XI & X who are on the verge of selecting a career for them selves.
