Inter DPS Basket Ball Tournament North Zone-II
Delhi Public School, Varanasi successfully hosted the Inter DPS Basketball Tournament North Zone-II in the under -14 (girls) category. Once again the institution proved its firm belief that games & sports are equally important for the all round development of the students and this is what education is all about. The tournament went on for three days the 16th , 17th and 18th of Nov’ 07. Eight teams from DPSs of U.P North Zone-II participated in this tournament.
 

The participating teams were:-

1. DPS Ranipur, Haridwar

2. DPS Azad Nagar,Kanpur

3. DPS Aligarh

4. DPS Eldeco, Lucknow

5. DPS Moradabad

6. DPS Agra

7. DPS Kalayanpur, Kanpur

8. DPS Varanasi

The shinning facesof the participants matched up to the bright sun shine on 16th Nov’ 07morning. All the participating teams lined up in the field and took the oath to put up a good show to the best of their abilities. The chief guest for the day Mr. R.K Singh, Director, University Sports Board, B.H.U declaring the tournament open.

The teams were grouped into Pool A & B. The tournament was played according to league basis. The participants displayed great talent expertise and agility while playing. The winners of the first day went on to play for the second day
of the tournament.

The second lap of the tournament continued on 17th of Nov. ’07. Amid all kinds of speculations the different teams played against one another.

At the end of the day the winners of the second phase were:

1. DPS Ranipur, Haridwar

2. DPS Moradabad

3. DPS Eldeco, Lucknow

4. DPS Varanasi

They qualified for the Semi-Finals.

The 3rd and the final phase of the Tournament was held on 18th of Nov. ’07. The match for the 3rd place was played between:DPS Varanasi & DPS Moradabad

The teams from DPS Eldeco, Lucknow & DPS Ranipur, Haridwar contested for the 1st & 2nd place. DPS Eldeco put up a great show defeating DPS Ranipur for the 1st position.

Finally DPS Eldeco Lucknow bagged the winner’s trophy, DPS Ranipur contended with the 2nd position and DPS Varanasi took the 3rd position. Ms. Sania from DPS Eldeco, Lucknow was declared the Best-player of the Tournament.

The team of referees for the tournament included Mr. Vivek Singh, Mr. Jeetendra Sonkar, Mr.Rohit Singh & Mr.Abhay Singh.

The culmination of the tournament was presided over by the Pro Vice Chairman DPS Varanasi, Mr. Pradeep Rajgarhia , Mr. Pradeep Ghosh Principal, DPS VNS and Mrs. Ashoo Kalra Headmistress DPS, Varanasi . All the teachers of DPS, Varanasi were also present at all times to boost the morale and cheer-up the participating teams.

It was indeed a unique experience for the students whether they were participants or spectators. Such endeavors do go a long way to provide a wholesome education to the students. It is indeed a very integral role that school play in opening up vistas for the young generation so that they may get an opportunity to hone their skills and achieve their dreams.

By making available such platforms, the schools are instrumental in gifting capable sports persons to our nation in future. And undoubtedly DPS Varanasi is one such institution.
