Annual Function Report 2007 : Junior Wing
The ‘Junior Wing’ of Delhi Public Varanasi celebrated it’s 5th Annual day ‘Abhyodaya’  on 3rd November, 2007. The school threw open its gates to the milling people who desired but one glimpse of the much talked about Annual Function of DPS Varanasi.

Under the moonlit sky, the gathering assembled to see the programme, witnessed a series of power-packed performances, making a statement of coming of age of Delhi Public School, Varanasi.

The programme was inaugurated by the welcoming of the Chief Guest Prof. N. Prasad Co-ordinator, Metallurgy,
I.T Dept. B.H.U. followed by the lighting of the lamp.

The grounds thronged with guardians, their relatives and friends; all agog with excitement to see their wards perform. Principal, Mr. Pradeep Ghosh welcomed all the visitors and honorable guests and produced the ‘Annual Report’ of the session 2007-08. He divulged about the details of achievement of the school in various sphere of activities like performances of the school in Inter-school competitions and their glorious achievements. He extolled the interest, discipline, creativity and sense of participation and eulogized the efforts of the teachers in imparting quality education. The Chief Guest in his speech encouraged and blessed the students.

The programme started appropriately with ‘Vandana’- invocation to the trinity Gods- Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The audience was moved by the distinct recital of the Shloka by the sparking dipsites. The first dance performance was well worded as it was performed brilliantly

The orchestra student (53 in number)  with their mesmerizing performance on Raag Mishra Peelu followed by the melodious number ‘We the DPS family’  forced the audience to tap their feet in the same rhythm.

Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Selfish Giant’ proved to be heart winning. The play depicted how nature turns its face away from selfishness and how simplicity of children can soothe a savage beast, soften rocks or bend a knotted oak. The audience was thrilled to witness the brilliant acting calibre of Ayush Malhotra ‘Selfish Giant’ and Jhalak Rastogi ‘Baby Jesus’. The spectators were forced to clap for some time after the play was over.

The Korean fan dance left the audience spell-bound. That was one of the most popular and appealing Korean folk dance. The dancers opened and closed their fans with a light-hearted smile to a flowing rhythm. The climax was when the dancers formed big fluttering flowers. The sprawling lawns of DPS Varanasi reverberated with loud applause when the dancers formed various figures by the movement of their fans.

The last performance of the day was the dance item ‘ Ritu Rang’. The songs of the six ritus (seasons) were based on the six ragas- Shri, Malkaush, Vasant, Deepak, Megh and Bhairav. The wonderful depiction of the seasons through the perfect amalgamation of ‘rag’ and taal’ won the heart of the crowd. The aesthetic sense and the effort to spread the aroma of our rich cultural heritage among the students won high appraisal.

A special mention should be made of the comperes of the whole programme – Ksitiz, Palak, Harsh, Ujjawal & Esha of classes IV & V. Their wonderful expression & description of the various events knotted the whole show in a single ornamental string.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
